st trip- On my first trip I feel like I accomplished a lot. The first thing that I did was go over a math worksheet in small groups. I first constructed the groups by the grades that they received overall. I mostly worked with the students who missed 2 or more problems. After meeting with each group the students better understood what they had missed. If I felt that a certain student needed more work I kept them back and we worked together, one on one. After doing this I was told to go over a math test with one of the students Destiny. I could tell that she had a hard time with focusing because she didn't give me the time of day, but I used examples that I thought would be interesting to her and she seemed more engaged. Overall, the students were excited to work with someone else other than their teacher and I think it went well.
nd trip- This trip was much more hectic. My teacher was not there so two classes were combined. I was asked to walk around the room while they worked in their math workbooks and if anyone needed help I was there. They didn't ask me many question, but when they needed clarification I was there.
rd trip- A substitute teacher was there and he was not helpful at all. I felt like more of a teacher than he was and the students looked to me as their teacher figure rather than him. He basically passed out their homework for that night and told them to complete it. Many of them had questions so I formed a small group and worked with them and taught them the simple math problems on the sheet. This was a good day for me because it made me believe in myself that I can become a teacher since I was basically leading by myself.
th trip- My teacher was finally there! This visit was more like the first week. I was asked to meet with each student individually to go over a reading exercise that they had previously completed. They questions they had completed were basic comprehension questions and I just went over them with them and showed them where to find these answers from the reading. Some did better than others, but after I went over it with them they understood and were able to reconstruct their answers.
Those are all of my experiences thus far, but I really am enjoying it!
